Very early on in our marriage, Colby and I both came to the conclusion that celebrating the holidays early never hurt anyone and ps, you sleep much better when you celebrate Christ's birth a day earlier. So when Valentines landed on a week day, there was no reason not to hit the town earlier in the week avoiding crowds and reservations. (or lack of) We hit up Costa Vida and planned on ice cream for dessert but plans changed when we exchanged gifts just before dinner. You ready for this?
Several weeks ago I found a necklace online that I LOVED. Colby bought it the day I pointed it out and tried hard to keep it a secret. When the package didn't arrive on the supposed said date, Colby panicked and spilled his guts. Did I mention we had nearly a week to go?
"Is there something else I can get you instead? I really want you to open a gift on v-day!"
"I'm sure it's coming, lets give it a few days and then we can go from there."
Homeboy lost patience when my $15 necklace hadn't landed in our mailbox by the 12th. On his way home from work on the 13th - our day of celebration- he panicked. I would expect him to stop at Target and snag a pair of earrings and a giant Dr pepper, seriously, that would have been sufficient.
Here is where it gets good. Also, here is where I realize that the Mr is the best thing since sliced bread. I would marry and divorce 100 losers if I knew I would end up being Mrs. Carter in the end.
Colby stopped at the jewelers just up the street. Yes, the jewelers! The same one where he designed my wedding ring. He came home with a single pink gerber daisy and and a tiffany blue box. I expected to open it and find the necklace with the two love-birds sitting on a branch with our initials engraved but was shocked to find a gorgeous several strand pearl bracelet. A real one none the less. He proceeded to tell me that my necklace hadn't come and he didn't want me to go without a gift.
All of the sudden the 14 days of love notes, treats, and gift cards I left out for him each day and the $2.00 photo book I made online weren't looking sufficient for any wednesday let alone the one before Valentines Day.
He tried to explain that I had already done much more than any piece of jewelry he could have gotten for me would have.
We finally got ready to get some dinner and as Colby was pulling out of the driveway, I ran to check the mail. I cried when I opened the mailbox and discovered a package with Colby's name on it.
I'll refrain from sharing the words that came from the Mr's mouth but I about died laughing. My husband is not a cusser. I can count on 1 hand how many times I've heard him swear but he let one slip. I can't really blame him on this one.
Of course my necklace would be in the mail the day before valentines, why wouldn't it be?
After dinner we ditched ice cream and stopped at Kohls for something to cover my butt.
Let this be the ONLY Valentines Day where I walked away with two pieces of fine jewelry and Colby was more than happy with 2 new shirts for work and a photo book. I've been embarrassed for days but he keeps insisting that we're even.
I'm afraid I'll never let myself live this one down.
How can I possibly love this guy any more? He is beyond amazing.
