Ragnar always brings out the best (and worst) in me.
On friday before we hit the race I washed and straightened my hair.Mid run on leg #1, my teammates poured water on my head, soaking my hair and saving my life.
That's all it took for the Ragnar in me to come out.
After that I ...
combed my hair twice in 36 hours - poorly both times.
slept outside, under the stars.
used only porta potties for business.
changed my clothes down to my unds in the back of a van. - more than once.
drank enough water to save a whale.
yelled at people I didn't know through a megaphone.
fell in love with eminem.
learned the words to a snoop dogg song.
slept in the back of a van.
danced on the corner.
found the mini van of my dreams - who knew right?
ran in 107 degree weather.
finished my 107 degree run with a run to the van for water.
downed motrin like it was being taken off the market.
ordered a salad and ate 4 bites. who does that?
became incredibly giggly and chatty on very little sleep.
found a therapist.
ate crackers for lunch.
text my boss in the wee hours of the night (he was running on another team)
made new friends.
laughed til i cried.
took a shower using baby wipes.
A whole lot went on in the 31+ hours is took to cross the finish line. All of it, was a party.
I discovered a few things this race -
I can get quite demanding when I'm in the middle of a run.
I can get quite demanding when I'm in the middle of a run.
I screamed for a piece of gum and when Tony finally found me one, I made him rip it in half and take the other half with him back to the van.
(he will also tell you I made him feed it to me but that wasn't the case, although I wouldn't put it past myself)
I need an iphone. stat.
My big sis has a whole new vocabulary when she's tired- lots of spanish and cussing.
(and I've got it all on video to prove it)
I will walk if it means not going to the hospital for an iv.
Ragnar is harder than surfing (a passing runner told me so)
Shania Twain has nothing on eminem when it comes to motivation.

Side note: In the middle of my 3rd leg on Coronado Island, a few things started looking oddly familiar.
It took only a few seconds for me to realize I was in the same location where I spent my first honeymoon.
I used the flood of memories as motivation and didn't let the tears flow until I finished.
It wasn't 107 degrees outside but that was by far my toughest run.
3 legs. 14.3 miles. lots of a sweat. a ton of water. only a few tears. lots of laughs. brand new memories. a handful of new bffs.
So. Cal Ragnar 2012 is in the books.
By far my favorite party.
I'm already gearing up for next year.
Team Rag-Nizzle Fo' Shizzle.
You've got a piece of my heart.

there's noting like a literal LOL and that's what i got reading this. and it has nothing to do with the fact that i was on your team! haha! seriously what is up with the tickling pic? and how come i don't even remember that? we've def solved tony's love problems- he's too nice. the gum scenario is only more proof of it! great pics, good job making sure that camera was getting used. you're an old veteran at this ragnar thing! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSome things are supposed to stay in the van! But seeing that I don't remember half of the stuff you have on tape maybe some of it is staying in the van! It was an awesome time and I'm so glad you were there with us! Thanks for ALL the pics and MOST of the documentation!
