my in-laws informed me last week when I attended a wedding reception without a coat because it didn't match my outfit, that I need to wear a coat in all months that end in {ber} 'burrr'. When I asked about january and february, my father in law smirked and told me it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to use one in those months while I'm at it.
After the reception {that I refused to attend by myself for fear of... anything awkward coming about? I hate attending anything by myself - including the grocery store} we grabbed a bite to eat at Applebee's. Dinner was full of laughs and discussions about a lot of different things {which have nothing to do with this post} but it wasn't until I was half way done with my santa fe chicken salad that I realized what was happening- I was bonding with my in-laws. This wasn't the first time that I had spent time with them while Colb wasn't in attendance and it certainly wasn't the first time that I felt comfortable enough with them to lay all my current worries, concerns, jokes, and comments about life all out on the table. It was however, the first time that I took a moment to stop what I was doing, and really appreciate the kind of people that they are and the love that they have for me.
They picked me up for this 'date' and Brock even came to the door and opened the door for me. They were genuinely concerned about my health and safety when I didn't wear a coat. At the reception, they stayed and mingled because I ran into some people I wanted to catch up with - and I'm just getting started.
I couldn't have hand-picked em any better - I won the in-law jackpot.
